The Botanical Gardens, nearby, offers a super panoramic view over the city and the harbour of Funchal. Also visit the “Palheiro Ferreiro” Gardens.
Madeira has several museums, one that belongs to the famous football player, Cristiano Ronaldo, the Museum “Quinta das Cruzes”, The “Santa Clara” Convent, the “Arte Sacra” Museum, with a collection of Portuguese and Flemish art from the 15th and 16th Century, amongst others. Very close to the hotel you will also find the “Madeira Film Experience”, a 30 minute audiovisual journey describing the 600 hundred years the Madeira history and culture.
Madeira’s hiking trails are of moderate difficulty, taking you to mountains, cliffs, forests and waterfalls. The shortest, 2.8 km each way, takes an hour and a half up to Pico Ruivo, the island’s peak, and back.
You can also check out the history of Madeira wine at the São Francisco Cellars, or have fun at the Aquarium, or at the Aqua Park. Try a ride in a Monte sledge, a traditional wickerwork sledge.
